A Note from Dad

I stand before you with a heart full of gratitude and a dream that has been shaped by the twists and turns of life. You see, I’ve always had a dream, a dream of leaving a legacy for my children, something that would make them proud and serve a purpose beyond our lifetimes.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that this legacy would take the form it has today. Life has a way of leading us down unexpected paths, and sometimes, it’s a path that we wouldn’t have chosen for ourselves. But as they say, we are where we are, and in those moments of uncertainty, I’ve learned to trust in a higher plan, a Divine Plan that has brought us here.

My dream for a family legacy has evolved into something more profound, something inspired by faith, love, and the remarkable abilities of my loved ones. I want to introduce you to the heart and soul of this legacy, my beloved family.

Our son Diego, whom this endeavor is founded on, was an amazing, brilliant young man. At only 18, he had accomplished so much, and his future was so bright. Already a Junior with a full academic scholarship at Gonzaga University, he had just accepted a double major in Finance and Business Management IT Systems and was soaring both academically and socially. Diego lost his life instantly in a tragic single car accident while driving back to campus very early on the morning of February 18th, 2023. Diego was always a Protector, a Giver; and we find comfort in hearing all the stories of how he helped everyone else #GETHOMESAFE on campus. Prior to leaving for college, he volunteered his time and labor at every charity event our family took on. The DMAC Foundation was created in his honor, to ensure others get home safe to their families and fulfill their purpose and dreams. With the community support, tools and resources we provide, we can honor his legacy for years to come.

Jasmine, our eldest daughter, graduated from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. She also achieved a minor in Diversity Studies and possesses a business mind that is nothing short of remarkable. She possesses the charisma of a true leader, rooted in her love for being the eldest sibling, and the courage to take on any challenge that comes her way. Her strength is perfectly complemented by her financial acumen, a combination that I believe will drive this foundation’s success.

Selena, our second daughter, graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work, and is the embodiment of compassion, selflessness, and unwavering determination. Her heartwarming nature, coupled with a drive that surpasses the norms of this world, is truly inspiring. She represents the kind of kindness and commitment to making a difference that we need in this world.

Brooke, my beloved wife, is a fearless force of nature. Her ability to engage others, raise funds, and bring communities together is nothing short of remarkable. She brings a dynamic energy and contagious passion to everything she does, and I am forever grateful for her unwavering support in this endeavor.

As for me, I bring leadership and life experiences to the table. Experiences that I am eager to share with youth who will be the beneficiaries of our efforts. Together, we form the Garza family, a family devastated by tragedy, but a family united by a common purpose. Today, we embark on a journey to start a foundation, not just any foundation, but a Garza family legacy. While I wish the reason for our foundation was different, I believe that there is a divine plan at work. We are here to make a difference, to leave a lasting impact on this world, and to honor the memory of our Son and Brother, Diego Michael Garza.

Humble beginnings and true love created the family that stands here today. Our son Diego’s untimely passing reminded us that life is fleeting. Through unthinkable tragedy, our community has shown us unwavering support. We are committed to continuing to spread this love back to the community. It is our dream to create and foster good deeds that reflect the life of our beloved Diego and help others #GETHOMESAFE.

Diego was a protector, a giver, and touched everyone with his presence and service. Diego was authentically himself. He wasn’t perfect but loved his people and his community whole-heartedly. The DMAC Foundation believes that one act, such as a safe ride home, a meal, or youth support services will bring our community to victory in his honor and memory.

In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for being a part of this movement. With your support, faith, and love, we can turn this dream into a reality, and together, we can create a legacy that will make our family proud, and honor our son by helping others for generations to come.
